Welcome
Welcome to Apofettle. I made the name from the Greek suffix “apo” meaning derived from and the dialect word “fettle”.
Fettle means to prepare, especially metal objects, and covers repair and improvement. It is also used in relation to well-being or frame of mind, hence the expression of being in “fine fettle”.
The word and “logo” resonate with the materiality of my work and its emotional and behavioural objectives.

Writing Boxes & Cases
These boxes & cases are intended to create a frame of mind and sense of occasion that inspires writers to produce a meaningful idea or important personal, political or diplomatic communication.
Intrigue is part of that process and is generated by the materials, spaces, mechanisms and stimuli offered by the pieces and the abstract images that accompany them.
This short film shows the phenomenology of my work.
Abstract Images
Each box or case comes with stationery that is decorated with a unique image. All are generated when a blade like this one is prepared to cut a groove in the box or case.
You can see more about the process in this unconventional film about sharpening that I made as a mature student at Leeds Beckett University.
